PORTLAND VOLUNTEER RECEIVES HOSPITAL SCHOLARSHIP (Corpus Christi, TX) Driscoll Children's Hospital is pleased to announce Ashleigh Jacobes as the recipient of the Auxiliary to Driscoll Children's Hospital’s Clara Driscoll Spirit Scholarship. The announcement was made by Vivian Daniel, Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s Auxiliary President. The scholarship is awarded annually to a Driscoll teenage volunteer (volunteen) and college bound high school senior. A volunteen at Driscoll since November 2000, Ashleigh donated over 580 hours, and has been recognized with several awards and appointments during her excellent service to the hospital. She received the Auxiliary Service Star and was the first teen volunteer in the history of Driscoll Children's Hospital to be named Auxilian of the Year. In addition, Ashleigh was an instrumental member of the “Disabilities Awareness Mission” program, which educates elementary-school students about challenges and misconceptions faced by people with disabilities and founder of the hospital’s Aluminum-Recycling program benefiting the Ronald McDonald House. Ashleigh also participated in a variety of extracurricular activities while maintaining an excellent academic standard. A graduate of Gregory Portland High School in Portland, Ashleigh plans on attending the University of Texas in Austin majoring in communications. The Clara Driscoll Spirit Scholarship was established by the Driscoll Children's Hospital Auxiliary. The annual $500 scholarship is awarded to qualifying seniors who provide volunteer service to the hospital. No particular field of study is required to receive this award which will help pay for tuition, books, and mandatory education expenses. Winners of the scholarship are based on the content of two essays, academic record, attitude, initiative, and their record of volunteer service at Driscoll Children's Hospital.
