DRISCOLL’S RIO GRANDE VALLEY AUXILIARY INSTALL NEW AUXILIARY CHAIRPERSONS FOR 2008

(Weslaco, TX) Driscoll Children’s Hospital is pleased to announce its Rio Grande Valley Auxiliary Chairpersons for 2008. Tammy Weaver, Assistant Vice President of Corporate Services, will announce the new chairpersons during the annual Awards Luncheon. In the last year, the McAllen and Brownsville auxiliary doubled both the amount of volunteer hours given and community donations received. The 30 volunteers in the McAllen clinic gave 14,000 hours, and the 10 volunteers in Brownsville contributed over 4,800 hours. In total, the two clinics received approximately $20,000 in community donations. Since 2003, the Rio Grande Valley Auxiliary has contributed thousands of hours, playing an active role in supporting the Subspecialty Clinics in both McAllen and Brownsville. 2008 Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley Auxiliary Chairpersons include: McAllen Subspecialty Clinic Aida Escobar, Chair Zeke Perez, Vice Chair Carmen Jackson, Recording Secretary Irma Garcia, Treasurer Shirley Robinson, Assistant Treasurer Brownsville Subspecialty Clinic Dionicio and Adelina Garza, Co-Chair

Since opening its doors in 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital has been offering hope and healing to the children of South Texas for half a century. The facility is a 189-bed pediatric tertiary care center with pediatric board-certified specialists representing 19 medical and nine surgical specialties. Each year, more than 6,000 children are admitted for inpatient care, 5,000 for day surgery, and 50,000 for outpatient primary and specialty care, as well as 40,000 for emergency care, as the first South Texas hospital with emergency services exclusively for children. Additionally, Driscoll maintains a state-of-the-art ground/air transport team, 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 40-bed neonatal intensive care unit, and specialized medical outreach.
