Driscoll Children’s Hospital Opens New Heart Catheterization Lab Open House & Ribbon Cutting Thursday, June 19th, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Driscoll Children’s Hospital, 2nd Floor (Corpus Christi, TX) Driscoll Children’s Hospital will hold a Ribbon Cutting and Open House for its new state-of-the-art Hybrid Pediatric Cardiac/Vascular Bi-Plane Catheterization Lab. The Ribbon Cutting will begin at 2 p.m. and the Open House, held immediately following, concludes by 4 p.m. The new $2.8 million bi-plane, hybrid lab allows cardiologists at Driscoll to work in tandem with cardiothoracic surgeons to better meet the healthcare needs of patients. A new telemedicine component links the lab to Driscoll’s operating rooms. At any time during a procedure, a cardiologist can electronically consult with a cardiovascular surgeon and both physicians are able to review the patient’s angiograms on high definition screens. This collaborative effort prevents unnecessary delays and enables immediate treatment. Newly installed high resolution flat screen monitors allow for the entire Cath Lab team to simultaneously view visual imaging and patient data at all times. The bi-plane imaging will offer angiographs that show the heart structures in two different places simultaneously. “At Driscoll, our patients are able to access the most comprehensive compliment of cardiac care, supported by state-of-the-art technology, anywhere in the United States,’ says Alan Fuertes, RG (R) (CV) Catheterization Lab Supervisor. “We toured many labs throughout the country and picked the most effective, technologically advanced portions of each and implemented them here at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.’
