Viva Volunteer Round-Up

Food and soft drinks will be provided.

(Corpus Christi, TX) Join the fiesta during Driscoll
Children’s Hospital’s Viva Volunteer Round Up! Caring
individuals of all ages looking to join the hospital’s Auxiliary
or interested in exploring volunteer opportunities throughout the hospital
should plan on attending the festive event filled with mariachis, door
prizes, and fashion. Free and open to the public, the festive event will
take place on Thursday, September 13, 2007 from 11 a.m. until
1:30 p.m. in the hospital’s auditorium. Food and drinks will also
be provided.
Since 1952, Driscoll’s Auxiliary has contributed thousands of hours
playing an active role in virtually every department at the hospital.
While giving back to the community, they gain knowledge in many healthcare
fields and provide valuable services to patients, their families, and
the staff. Time commitments, areas of service, and responsibilities vary.
Bilingual volunteers are also highly encouraged.
Opportunities available include:
- Gift Shop - selling, merchandising, stocking shelves,
and creating balloon bouquets
- Cuddle Club – holding and rocking babies in
the Neonatal Intensive Care unit
- Room Service - deliver special items to patients
(i.e. videos, meals, etc.)
- Toy Distribution - delivering free, donated toys
to patients
- Cottage Shop - actively involved in serving for free-standing
resale shop located on campus.
- Surgical Waiting - provide links of communication
between patient families and staff
- Information Desk - offer general hospital information,
directions and offer assistance to families and visitors.
- Oncology Clinic - work directly with patients, keeping
them occupied with reading, playing games, working puzzles and coloring.

Since opening its doors in 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital
has been offering hope and healing to the children of South Texas for
half a century. The facility is a 189-bed pediatric tertiary care center
with pediatric board-certified specialists representing 19 medical and
nine surgical specialties. Each year, more than 6,000 children are admitted
for inpatient care, 5,000 for day surgery, and 50,000 for outpatient
primary and specialty care, as well as 40,000 for emergency care, as
the first South Texas hospital with emergency services exclusively for
children. Additionally, Driscoll maintains a state-of-the-art ground/air
transport team, 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 40-bed neonatal
intensive care unit, and specialized medical outreach.
