Steve Woerner named President & CEO
of Driscoll Children’s Hospital
(Corpus Christi) It was announced today that Steve
F. Woerner has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Driscoll
Children’s Hospital. Woerner will assume his new position at Driscoll
in early September.
C. Ivan Wilson, Chairman of the Board of Driscoll Children’s
Hospital, said, “Steve is an extremely able, experienced and highly
effective hospital administrator with a proven track record. We are
very fortunate to have him on the Driscoll team.”
Woerner comes to Driscoll Children’s Hospital with over 30 years
of healthcare experience. He graduated in 1976 with a B.S.N. from the
University of Texas in Austin and then went on to receive a M.S. in
Health Care Administration at Trinity University in 1979. His first
job after graduate school was as a surgical nurse at Seton Medical Center.
He went on from there into the administrative side of the healthcare
environment and has been the CEO of Corpus Christi Medical Center since
1994.

position at Driscoll, one of the premier children’s hospitals
in the nation.”
Wilson, who is also a Trustee of the Driscoll Foundation, said,
“We were all so very impressed with Steve’s commitment and
dedication not only to the local healthcare community but to the overall
South Texas community as well.” Woerner, a past Chairman
of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, also sits on the Del Mar
College Foundation as its 2007 Chairman of its Investment Committee.
He has also served as a medical missionary to Guatemala for Clinical
Corpus Christi.
Woerner, a native of Fredericksburg, Texas, is married to his wife
of 25 years, Linda and they have two children, Amanda and Adam.
Since opening its doors in 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital
has been offering hope and healing to the children of South Texas for
half a century. The facility is a 189-bed pediatric tertiary care center
with pediatric board-certified specialists representing 19 medical and
nine surgical specialties. Each year, more than 6,000 children are admitted
for inpatient care, 5,000 for day surgery, and 50,000 for outpatient
primary and specialty care, as well as 40,000 for emergency care, as
the first South Texas hospital with emergency services exclusively for
children. Additionally, Driscoll maintains a state-of-the-art ground/air
transport team, 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 40-bed neonatal
intensive care unit, and specialized medical outreach.
