RECIEVES THREE HUGE AWARDS FOR THEIR DIALYSIS UNIT FROM THE END STAGE RENAL DISEASE NETWORK OF TEXAS

Driscoll, the only Children’s Hospital in Texas to Receive Anemia Management Award

(Corpus Christi, TX) Driscoll’s Dialysis Unit has been in operation for three years, and in only three years they have proven to be a Dialysis facility that stands above most children’s facilities in Texas.

For facilities that have been functioning for at least two years Driscoll Children’s Hospital received three Benchmark Awards given by the End Stage Renal Disease Network of Texas for the second consecutive year.  For facilities that rank in the top 10 percent of all Texas Dialysis Units, Driscoll was one of 10 to receive; Hemodialysis Adequacy.  For facilities that ranked in the top 10 percent of all Texas Dialysis Units, Driscoll one of 11 facilities and the only children’s hospital to receive; Hemodialysis Anemia Management and for facilities that ranked in the top 10 percent Driscoll was on of 11 facilities to receive  Hemodialysis Albumin Management.

The national End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) program, which extends Medicare benefits to cover the cost of medical care for most individuals suffering from ESRD, was created in October 1972 through the passage of Section 299I of Public Law 92-603.  ESRD program was enacted by Congress in order to improve: Cost effectiveness, Ensure the quality of care provided under the programs, Encourage kidney transplantation and home dialysis, Increase program accountability.

Since opening its doors in 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital has been offering hope and healing to the children of South Texas for half a century. The facility is a 189-bed pediatric tertiary care center with pediatric board-certified specialists representing 19 medical and nine surgical specialties. Each year, more than 6,000 children are admitted for inpatient care, 5,000 for day surgery, and 50,000 for outpatient primary and specialty care, as well as 40,000 for emergency care, as the first South Texas hospital with emergency services exclusively for children. Additionally, Driscoll maintains a state-of-the-art ground/air transport team, 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 40-bed neonatal intensive care unit, and specialized medical outreach.
