DRISCOLL C.E.O. RICK MERRILL APPOINTED
AS UNITED WAY BOARD PRESIDENT

(Corpus Christi, Texas) The United Way of the Coastal Bend and its Board of Governors are pleased to announce that Driscoll Children’s Hospital President and C.E.O. Rick Merrill has accepted the appointment as Board President to the organization’s Board of Governors. The announcement was made by Bob Grimes of Valero and Nominating Chair for United Way of the Coastal Bend.

Prior to becoming Board President, Mr. Merrill has been actively involved with the United Way for several years and previously served as the United Way Campaign Chairman in 2004.

“As the new executive for United Way of the Coastal Bend I am delighted to begin my service under Rick Merrill,” says Catrina Steinocher, Executive Director of the United Way of the Coastal Bend. “His leadership and vision will serve as the guiding force as United Way of the Coastal Bend strives to improve the lives of our friends and neighbors.”

The United Way of the Coastal Bend is a local non-profit organization focused on bringing together people and resources to improve lives within the Coastal Bend community. Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s Rehabilitation Services is currently one of over 60 programs in the area receiving funding from the United Way’s annual fundraising campaign.

Since opening its doors in 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital has been offering hope and healing to the children of South Texas for half a century. The facility is a 189-bed pediatric tertiary care center with pediatric board-certified specialists representing 19 medical and nine surgical specialties. Each year, more than 6,000 children are admitted for inpatient care, 5,000 for day surgery, and 50,000 for outpatient primary and specialty care, as well as 40,000 for emergency care, as the first South Texas hospital with emergency services exclusively for children. Additionally, Driscoll maintains a state-of-the-art ground/air transport team, 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 40-bed neonatal intensive care unit, and specialized medical outreach.
